The United Negros Drivers Operators Center Inc. is requesting for an extension of the July 15 deadline for the implementation of City Ordinance 187,Series of 1997, which requires all southbound public transport utility vehicles to use the Sambok South Terminal at Lopez Jaena-San Sebastian streets, Bacolod City.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia had issued Memorandum No. 114 last week directing the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office to implement the ordinance and for the City Legal Office, Bacolod City Police Office, and Public Order and Safety Office to extend the legal and security support and assistance required the BTAO.

UNDOC secretary general Jesse Ortega, in his letter to Leonardia dated July 8, 2011, said due to time constraint, they are not ready for the deadline, citing the process of information dissemination to their members and other preparations needed for  the transfer.

He said they are requesting for the extension of the deadline to July 30.

Businessmen within the vicinity of the public transport waiting station in Libertad Public Market also met with Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday to air their concern regarding their business which they believe will be affected by the transfer of the terminal to Lopez Jaena.

The group accompanied by barangay officials of Brgy. 40, were assured by Sayson that public utility vehicles and buses will still pass by Libertad on its way out of Bacolod and on its way back to the city.

Secretary to the Mayor Rodel Parcon provided the barangay officials a copy of the ordinance that provides that the southbound terminal should be in Lopez Jaena. It also provides that the area in Libertad, which is being used as a terminal, is only for a waiting station.*CGS
