ACT partylist solon
at NOTF gab today

Rep. Antonio Tinio of the ACT Teachers Party List will be the keynote speaker at the 65 th Annual Representative Assembly of the Negros Occidental Teachers' Federation at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym today.

As ACT chairperson, Tinio serves as spokesperson for the organization's various advocacies, including the rights and welfare of teachers and education workers and the struggle to uphold the people's right to quality public education, a press release from the NOTF said.

He is also active in promoting respect for human trade union rights in the education sector.

Aside from advocating for the increase of government budget for education, Tinio also supports the call to upgrade teachers' salaries and the protection of the right of suffrage of public school teachers serving as election inspectors during elections.

Meanwhile, the NOTF marks today its 65 th Annual Representative Assembly with the theme: “NOTF, Growing Strong at 65”.

For 65 years, the organization has been serving its active and retired members as well as their dependents, the press release said.

The organization is presently headed by Portia Mallorca as president; Clemente Estampador, 1 st Vice President; Carolina Bingaan, 2 nd Vice President; Segundina Mocon, secretary; Evelyn Arnaiz, Treasurer, Rosario Cantiller, auditor; and Alejandro Amoroso, public information officer.*

Kabankalan
marks Charter Day

Department of Education assistant regional director, Corazon Brown, was the keynote speaker on the opening program of the 14th Charter Day celebration of Kabankalan City Thursday, a Kabankalan press release said.

The program, sponsored by DepEd-Kabankalan that was also celebrating DepEd Day, and was highlighted by the official declaration of the opening of the 14th Kabankalan Charter Day Celebration by Mayor Isidro Zayco.

Cutting the ceremonial ribbon with Brown were Zayco and Dr. Enigardo Legislador, chairman of the Cultural and Tourism Foundation Inc.

In her welcome message, Elisa Broñola, schools division superintendent, explained the theme “Guro, Bayani Ka.”

She said teachers are heroes by giving their best in teaching the children. Heroism is not exactly the result of a heroic act. It is also something that comes from the heart especially while building the character of children, Broñola said.

Meanwhile, Brown observed the good relation between DepEd and the city government in Kabankalan, the press release said.

The West Negros University Rondalla and Glee Club also performed at the program.*

Art show to open

An art show called "The Mother and Child 2011" will open 5 p.m. today at Italia Restaurant, in Bacolod City, a press release from the organizers said.

The exhibit features 30 works of a comprehensive list of top notch artists from Bacolod all the way to Manila , the press release said.

It will feature works of Angel Cacnio, Jun Martinez, Solomon Saprid, Mario Parial, Angelito Antonio, Norma Belleza, Tuesday Group artists, Nunelucio Alvarado, Rodney Martinez, Moreen Austria , Anthony Fermin and the maestro Rafael Paderna.

The exhibit will run until August 30.
