A father and son trapped in a 32 to 35 feet deep well in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, died Wednesday, while the body of a fisherman who drowned Thursday was recovered in Binalbagan waters yesterday.
Police Officer 2 Vincent Limaco of the Himamaylan police said it took six hours for the bodies of Jolin Badajos, 46, and his son John Lloyd, 12, of Brgy. Buenavista to be retrieved by rescuers from the well.
Investigation showed that their neighbor Vicente Taco, who owns the well, asked the elder Badajos to get a piece of wood that fell into the well at about 1p.m. Wednesday.
Since the elder Badajos could not fit into the well he asked his son to get into a plastic pail attached to a rope and lowered the child down the well. However, the rope broke and the child got trapped, Limaco said.
The elder Badajos then went into the well to save his son but was also trapped. Their neighbor Romeo Mirano, who saw the incident, tried to rescue them, but also got trapped, Limaco said.
Mirano was rescued 15 minutes later while it took some time to rescue the Badajoses since they were trapped in a deeper portion of the well.
The victims' bodies were brought to the Philco Funeral homes in Himamaylan City .
In Binalbagan, the decomposing body of L oduvico Valesca, 37, of Barangay Inapoy, Kabankalan City , was found floating two kilometers off the shorelines of Brgy. Enclaro at about 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Binalbagan town police chief, Insp. Albert Sy, said Velasca's sister-in-law Rosemarie Valesca told the police that he had been missing since Tuesday after the boat he was on, capsized while traversing the Pilio-Piliohan River in Brgy Inapoy.
An autopsy conducted by the Binalbagan Municipal Health Officer Hazel Pagunsan showed that Velasco drowned.*APN
