The flyover project in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City , may not be completed in time for its inauguration next week if bad weather continues, city administrator Rogelio Balo said yesterday.
Balo, who went to the construction site, said that project engineer Rico Flores told him that due to heavy rains the completion of the flyover has been delayed.
The flyover project is set to be inaugurated on Thursday next week and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways are expected to join the rites, Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez said Thursday.
Balo said that the completion of the flyover project is at 98 to 99 percent already. The DPWH is now installing road markings and signage at the flyover, he said.
Golez said that it is uncertain if the second flyover, which is expected to be built at the junction of Magsaysay Avenue and Araneta Street will still materialize, or if the project was already given to other areas.
Balo, however, stressed that the two flyover projects for Bacolod had been endorsed to the National Economic Development Authority by the DPWH in 2006 yet, and that, there is already a fund for both, therefore, there is no reason that the second flyover should not be built.
Meanwhile, Balo said the city is willing to talk to the lot owners near the boundaries of Talisay and Bacolod cities and at the Bacolod-Murcia road area so they could donate parcels of their lands for the installation of two statues that will serve as a welcome landmarks to the city.
Golez said the 30-foot statues designed by Paeng Paderna show a father, mother and child wearing MassKara masks with their arms outstretched, which according to Golez, will welcome visitors to Bacolod.*APN
