Countertrade five keep
quarterfinal hopes alive

JSY Countertrade came up with a strong performance to surprise JSY Transport, 73-62, while Basecom tightened its grip on the top seat as it routed Royal Star Trading, 75-53, in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inter-Color Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Countertrade kept its quarterfinals hope alive and won its first game after a 0-5 start, while Basecom improved to 5-1, dealing Royal Star its third straight loss to drop to 2-4. JSY Transport totes a 3-3 win-loss card.

Dan Gustilo singlehandedly equalled the first quarter output of JSY Transport with 9 points to establish an 18-9 lead.

Pacquiao heads
Darts’ Council

World boxing champion and Filipino icon Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao will throw the ceremonial darts, kicking off the three-day P1-million Philippine Cup and Philippine Open Singles championships at 6 p.m. today in Intramuros, Manila.

Pacquiao, the acknowledged pound-for-pound king, recently accepted the position as chairman of the Darts Council of the Philippines, and has put up the P1-million ante in the three-day event ending with the men’s and ladies' single events on Sunday.

DCP president Atty. Andrew Arrieta said that Pacquiao pledged to support the sport of darts and is expected to make an announcement with regards to bigger darting events in the future.

Pagunsan, Tabuena
share lead in golf tilt

Juvic Pagunsan lived up to the hype, firing a stirring bogey-free 68 in wet conditions to take control of the field in the rain-suspended first round of the US$ 50,000 ICTSI-Mt. Malarayat Championship at the Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas yesterday.

Miguel Tabuena also charged home with a four-under card to tie the fancied Pagunsan at the helm, one stroke clear of Thai Panuwat Muenlek, in a solid start for the 16-year-old find seeking his first pro win on his rookie year.

Pagunsan holed out with a birdie on the par-5 ninth to slip past Thai Panuwat Muenlek, who momentarily seized the solo lead with a three-under 69 until the two Filipino bets came through with their 68s to move on top.
