Technical officials arriving today
for 2011 AsPac softball tourney

The technical officials for the 2011 Asia-Pacific Softball Regional Tournament are scheduled to arrive today in Bacolod City, while final touches at the University of St. La Salle Football Field will be completed this weekend in time for the opening of the competition on Monday, 

Tournament organizers yesterday said the AsPac technical officials are arriving ahead of the delegation to ensure that everything is in place prior to the start of the matches.

Tournament director Ismael Veloso said representatives from Guam, China, and host Philippines, will be attending the Manager’s Meeting set on Sunday.

Earlier, officials from the Little League of the Philippines said that the from China that will play in the Seniors Division, will arrive in Bacolod tomorrow while the delegation from Guam and three other teams of host Philippines will report on Sunday.

All competing squads will be billeted at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, Veloso said.

Meanwhile, the local squad Bacolod-Negros (BaNeg) – Philippine Team from the Domingo Lacson National High School, is ready to defend their crown in the Juniors division.

The team is composed of Ma. Celestina Palma, Jamaica Arribas, Hanah Mae Dela Torre, Guia Lyn Dechosa, Florabelle Pabionia, Edna Mae Severino, Janet Rusia, Julie Mae Zaragoza, Reflaica Basa, Vanessa Mae Zaragoza, Tweedle Samson, Jesel Tanya Belonio, and Arielyn Areglado.

Calling the play for BaNeg is coach Romeo Palma while Esteban Alacea is the head of the delegation.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, executive assistant to the Governor Angel Verdeflor, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson are the team managers.

Aside from the DLNHS Juniors team, other teams to don the national colors are the Muntinlupa Little League team for the Major League Division; International Little League Association of Manila for the Seniors League and the Manila Team for the Big League.

The Manila Team is composed mostly of players from DLNHS who are presently enrolled at the Adamson University and Rizal Technological University.

Meanwhile, Marañon and Leonardia will lead the cast of honorary guests during the opening rites on Monday at the USLS field.

Also expected to attend the ceremonies is Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner and Little League of the Philippine District Administrator Jose Luis Gomez.*NAB
