Battle for control

COURT OK’S POLLS, OPPOSED AT NEA
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Regional Trial Court Branch 46 in Bacolod City has recalled the writ of preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order it had issued against Central Negros Electric Cooperative, et al, filed by a former Ceneco director last year, and ordered the election for director of its District VI-Bago held at the earliest possible time.

RTC Judge George Patriarca, in his resolution dated June 21, 2011, dismissed the case for lack of cause of action and/or for failure to exhaust administrative remedies.

The battle for the Bago Ceneco seat is reportedly vital to control of the Ceneco board votes.moremoremore

Coke’s sugar buying
called ‘cosmetics’
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Sugar leaders yesterday said that while Coca-Cola still buys Philippine sugar, it is not at the volume it used to before.

They were reacting to the Coca-Cola statement issued Wednesday that the firm continues to source its sugar requirements locally.

Labor and planters groups Wednesday launched a boycott against Coca-Cola products in Bacolod City for its importation of premixes and high fructose corn syrup, instead of buying locally produced sugar, they said.moremoremore

We’re not entering
Mt. Kanlaon – EDC

BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Energy Development Corp. yesterday allayed environmentalists’ fears that it will go beyond its 12.5 hectare buffer zone area outside the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park to access steam for its Northern Negros Geothermal Power Plant in Bago City, and assured residents of its continuing reforestation of vast areas in Negros Occidental.

EDC will temporarily shut down its Bago plant in July for further resource study. The plant initially projected to produce 40 megawatts of power is only producing 8 to 9 megawatts.

Its planned shutdown for further study has prompted concern among Church and environment groups that EDC will explore for geothermal power beyond its area in the buffer zone and try to enter the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park.moremoremore
