The Department of Science and Technology in Negros Occidental recently turned over P920,000 to Prism Import/Export Inc. under the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program, Glady Tomulto, science research specialist, said yesterday.
The Prism Import/Export Inc. will buy a moulder machine and finger jointing line machine. The moulder machine will allow the worker to put any lumber profile on the shaper cutter and gives value-added amount to end trimmings and lumber-cut-offs, which are normally treated as production wastes, Tomulto said.
She said the finger jointing line machine allows them to use all lumber cut-offs by end jointing them to form long lengths of lumber again.
The Innovation System Support Funds of SETUP-DOST provided the technical assistance to upgrade machines and equipment of manufacturing industries, like metals, textiles, food, and furniture, Tomulto said.
The assistance aims to help these industries improve in their production, minimize expenses, and to produce competitive and quality products, Tomulto added.
Meanwhile, DOST heads, science research specialists, and supervising specialists from Region VI, VII, and VIII will be in Bacolod City today until Thursday for their training on the Technology Needs Assessment Protocol through the Food and Nutrition Research Institute.
DOST provincial director Allan Francis Dara-ug said the TNA is the assessment process that they conduct before they assist a beneficiary through the SETUP program.
The TNA will determine if the equipment requested by the firm is necessary for the improvement of their production, Dara-ug said.
Tomorrow, they will have an actual conduct of TNA to the identified clients of DOST SETUP-ISS in the four sectors – food, metal, furniture, and textile, he said.
