Selection of cop chiefs

The mayors of Negros Occidental will start selecting their police chiefs today, Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said yesterday.

Guisihan said he and other members of the screening and evaluation committee will meet members of the Negros Association of Chief Executives today, to present the list of nominees for police chiefs to them.

“As soon as the mayors are be able to select their police chiefs, we will immediately deploy them, the next day, Guisihan said.

The 31 police chiefs who have been relieved and 31 other police commissioned officers completed an eight-day leadership enhancement training on March 11, triggered by their “below par” performance in the campaign against illegal gambling, overstaying of some in their posts that led to inefficiency in performing their missions, among others.

Mayors who have yet to select their police chiefs, Guisihan said will have the designated police officers-in-charge remain in their positions.

EB Magalona Mayor David Albert Lacson who chairs the Negros ACE and League of Municipalities, is among the members of the screening and evaluation committee.

Those who fail to make it as police chief, Guisihan said will either be designated as deputy police chiefs, platoon leaders of mobile group companies, or staff members of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

Of the 31 police chiefs, four who may retain their positions are those from the cities of Sipalay and Victorias, and the municipalities of San Enrique and Hinobaan.

Guisihan said he expects better police chiefs in Negros Occidental, after their graduation from the leadership enhancement training.*GPB

Police seize jai
alai tipsters

Several reams of jai alai tipsters and tally sheets were recovered by Station 2 policemen at about 4:45 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. 1, Bacolod City.

Station 2 commander Chief Insp. Noel Polines said Senior Police Officer 4 Enriquito Gochoco, Senior Police Officer 1 Mario dela Torre and Police Officer 1 Errol Corral were conducting a surveillance operation in the area when they saw a man unloading some items from a parked multi-cab.

Polines said that when the policemen were about to approach the multi-cab, the man fled, leaving the items behind while the driver also alighted and ran towards a nearby compound.

Only Ronnie Cuadra, 73, widower of Purok Sigay in Brgy. 2, Bacolod, who was inside the multi-cab, was arrested and is now detained at Police Station 2, Polines also said.

Among the items recovered from the multi-cab were a bag that contained tally sheets with number combinations written on them, six reams of tipsters with the codename “Deo Grande” dated March 15, 2011, five reams of betting stubs, additional 24 rolls of tally sheet, carbon papers and a piece of paper with the list of the names of the corridors and collectors, police records showed.

Investigation showed that the tipsters had just come from a printing press and were supposed to be delivered to Murcia town, Negros Occidental when the police caught them.

With the confiscation of the tipsters, Polines said he believes that the operation of “Deo Grande” in Murcia was paralyzed yesterday.*APN

Cops arrest three
family members

Three members of a family facing charges for frustrated murder, were arrested Sunday in Brgy. Sicaba, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Inspector Gil John Despi, officer-in-charge of the Cadiz City Police Station, yesterday identified the arrested fugitives as Aladino Mondejar, 41, his wife, Amalia, 44; and their son, Aldrine, 18.

Despi said Cadiz Regional Trial Court Judge Renato Munez, who issued the arrest warrant, recommended P200,000 as bail for each of them.

Police Inspector Rollie Pondevilla also reported the apprehension of Peterson Conjilado, 26, in Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City, by virtue of an arrest warrant also, for the crime of frustrated murder.

Pondevilla, officer-in-charge of the Escalante police, said San Carlos Regional Trial Court Judge Mariarita Bascos also recommended P200,000 bail for Conjilado, who is now in jail.* GPB
