SP acts on city canteens
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

An ordinance declaring all canteens operated by the city government as socio-economic enterprise units, was approved on first reading Wednesday by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The proposed ordinance said declaring the canteens as socio-economic enterprise units will increase the revenue of Bacolod City.

It said that, for so long, canteens operated by the city were not maintained and supervised well because of that. The ordinance provides for the creation of a committee to supervise the canteens.

It will be composed of the mayor as chairman, the chairman of the SP Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse as vice chairman, with members composed of the city administrator, city treasurer, city legal officer, city health officer and the social services head.

The ordinance was authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito and co-authored by Councilor Em Legaspi-Ang.

Meanwhile, a resolution requesting the Department of Agriculture through the Office of the City Mayor to direct the Bantay Dagat Task Force to conduct frequent patrol, to monitor and prevent fishermen from using dynamite in the territorial waters of Bacolod City, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Catalino Alisbo, the resolution said fishing with the use of dynamite is strictly prohibited under the Maritime Law.

Risty Riacaros, 37, of Purok Mahimulaton, Brgy. Banago, Bacolod was killed by dynamite explosion while fishing along the shoreline of Sitio Magsaysay, Brgy. Singcang-Airport early this month, it said.

The SP also passed a resolution, also authored by Alisbo, requesting Social Security System chief executive officer Emilio De Quiros to appeal to the President for the increase in the monthly pension of its members to enable them to cope with the continuing increase in the prices of prime commodities.*CGS
