The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board is set to meet with the Trade Union of Filipino Workers that had petitioned for a P97 increase in the daily minimum wage of workers in Western Visayas today, a government press release said.

Board Secretary Nesa Nolido said that the board has already kicked off its deliberation on the matter and today’s meeting was set to seek further clarification as to reasons cited for the prayer.

Nolido added that the petition was anchored on supervening conditions such as increase in prices of basic commodities, among others, the press release said.

However, she added that they would like to meet with the petitioner because the petition was filed on February 1 when the Middle East crisis had not yet erupted.

The TUFW is based in Bacolod City and, so far, it is the lone labor group that has sought for increase in the daily minimum wage of workers.

Currently, the daily minimum wage in Western Visayas is P265 for the non-agricultural/industrial/commercial establishments with more than 10 workers and P223 for those employing 10 or less workers.

The daily minimum wage for the agriculture sector is set at P233 for those in plantations and P223 for non-plantation workers, the press release said.*
