Parolee faces raps for
killing trike driver

Attempted robbery with homicide charges were filed yesterday before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office against a parolee, accused of killing a tricycle driver he failed to rob in Brgy. Banago, Tuesday last week.

The charges were filed against Rommel Nogales, 40, of Purok Brgy. Banago, Station 3 chief, Insp. Jose Mulleta, said.

Mulleta had said earlier that the suspect had just been released on parole for robbery with physical injuries when he robbed and stabbed another tricycle driver in Bacolod earlier this year.

Tricycle driver Vicente Flores III, 31, of Zone 9 in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod died from gunshot wounds on both his thighs and on his back.

The suspect and his companion boarded the tricycle of Flores at Santo Niño Stop in Brgy. 2, Bacolod , at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and asked him to bring them to Purok Langis in Brgy. Banago.

Flores’ backrider, who witnessed the incident, said that when they reached the area, the suspects got off the tricycle and ordered the victim to give them his cash collection.

He added that the suspects failed to get anything as the victim fought back, prompting one of them to shoot him, and then fled.

Mulleta said the victim’s backrider was able to identify the suspect through a photo from Parole and Probation Office.*APN

Armed men rob
eatery in Cadiz

A group of unidentified armed men ransacked a “carenderia” (a makeshift eatery) of frozen and assorted cooked foods, before they robbed its owner and customers at gunpoint Sunday night in Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The five suspects, armed with .45 caliber pistols and a fragmentation grenade, hogtied the six customers, divested them of more than P2,000 in cash, wristwatches, and cellular phones, initial police investigations showed.

Armando Castellano, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, said the five suspects posing as customers, ordered softdrinks. Instead of paying for what they had ordered, he said the armed men pulled out their guns, and rounded up the customers, including him and his mother, Maya.

Before fleeing, Castellano said the suspects emptied their refrigerators of frozen foods, and did not spare the assorted cooked food they were selling.

The suspects fled on board a vehicle they flagged down, witnesses said.*GPB

Armed men rob
eatery in Cadiz

Station 10 policemen arrested a man for alleged marijuana possession at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City.

Station 10 chief, Insp. Carmelo Nermal, identified the person arrested as Rocky Guanco, 27, of Zone 5 in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod.

Nermal said his men were conducting police visibility patrol at Bangga Totong in Brgy. Felisa, when they saw Guanco standing beside the road with a companion.

He said Guanco was arrested after a brief chase as he and his unidentified companion fled when they saw the policemen.

Police officers 2 Willard Joey Aspan and Eugene Tamayo seized a stick of suspected marijuana cigaret, a cellular phone, and P426 in cash from Guanco when he was arrested, police records showed.

Nermal also said that Guanco sustained injuries when he resisted arrest and fought back with the apprehending officers. Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, or Republic Act 9165, are readied against Guanco, who is now detained at Police Station 10.*APN
