Recalling 50 golden years

The Baguio Military Institute Alumni Class of ‘61 held its 50th year reunion in Bacolod City for two days, recently.

Alumni of Classes 1956 to 1966 also joined to make the reunion a success. Classmates and schoolmates who have not seen each other for 40 or 50 years were reunited.

BMI was founded by Benito Lopez Sr. in 1956. The school motto was “Character makes the man.” Its primary aim is to instill discipline into the character of the young cadets, and to aim high and hit the goal. The school has produced leaders in the field of business, farmers and politics.

For two days, the gathering of alumni was a never-ending reminiscing of the good old days in Baguio. In Bacolod, they enjoyed going around, and visited The Ruins, Balay Negrense, had breakfast at L’Fisher Hotel, and tried the best restos Bacolod can offer.

On the last day, the group had dinner at Saltimboca of which an alumnus, Joebert Cuaycong, married to Patty C. is the owner. Old photos were filed and videos were shown. All enjoyed watching and laughing at their antics 50 years ago.

Aside from the non-polluted air and light traffic, and a much welcome environment to savor in Bacolod City, the alumni renewed friendship after fifty years that made the affair a truly memorable and enjoyable one.

Meanwhile, Batch 2012 of Bacolod’s St. Scholastica Academy adopted Alice in Wonderland as the theme of their memorable Junior Prom at the La Proa Ballroom of the L’Fisher Hotel recently. It was a truly memorable affair for the budding young beauties and their handsome escorts, as well as for their parents, grandparents, titos and titas who watched their show from the sidelines. Oh to be sweet sixteen again!*

Remember: The power of prayer will never leave you, even in the darkest times. It is the greatest weapon known to human kind, the freedom no one can take away.
