Negrense Julius Premediles, who was recently promoted to assistant chief of the Bureau of Customs Warehousing Audit and Monitoring Unit, yesterday vowed to keep a close watch to prevent the entry of smuggled sugar into the country.

Premediles, who formerly headed Sub Port of Pulupandan in Negros Occidental, and was one of the country’s top performing collectors, was the first to be promoted to District Collector IV under the Aquino administration.

District Collector Roberto Madrid of Western Visayas, who has been a topnotcher district collector for three years, has been appointed head of the BOC Warehousing Audit and Monitoring Unit, Premediles said.

Madrid and Premediles have been tasked by Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez with monitoring thousands of Customs Bonded Warehouses nationwide.

Premediles, who has a masters degree in business administration,  said they will make sure proper revenues are paid to the  government for commodities brought in, and work to protect the country’s sugar industry from smugglers.
