The 4th Mayor David Albert R. Lacson Basketball Cup opened March 19 at the Wilkinson Social Court in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Sixteen out of the 23 barangays in the town are joining the competition designed to tap the participation of Sangguniang Kabataan officers and members, or youth below 21 years old.

Joining the tournament on the theme “One Dream…One Spirit…One Game,” are barangays Pasil, Alicante, Manta-angan, Batea, Damgo, II-Poblacion, Tabigue, I-Poblacion, Tanza, San Jose, Sto. Nino, Tuburan, Tomongtong, Alacaygan, Madalag and Gahit.

Tournament commission head is Luigi Clemente, president of the E.B. Magalona SK Federation.

Happy at the big turnout of participating teams this year, Lacson said sports activities like basketball strengthen the character of the youth and discourage them from getting hooked on illegal activities.

The Mayor’s Cup is expected to end a week before the celebration of the 22nd Ugyonan Festival slated April 28 to May 1.*
