Sugar Tripartite Council
readies for nat’l congress

Members of the District Tripartite Council in the Sugar Industry in Region VI and the Department of Labor and Employment yesterday conducted a pre-congress meeting to discuss and propose amendments on the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 6982 or the Sugar Amelioration Act of 1991.

DOLE Assistant Director Crispin Dannug said the pre-congress is in preparation for the national congress of DTC to be held in Bacolod City on April 6 and 7 at the Sugarland Hotel.

Dannug said they discussed the problems and issues of migrating sugar workers. Sugar workers transfer from region to region or from province to province, thus affecting the rules and the transition of benefits and increases the chances of illegal recruitment, he added.

complex opens

A balikbayan from the United States has invested in a 10-room dormitory which opened yesterday along Burgos Street, Bacolod City, because of his desire to help the local economy.

John Paul Erpe, a supervisor of Hilton Hotel in Alexandra, Virginia, yesterday said the dormitory is strategically located in the heart of the city and is close to Burgos-Lacson streets.

The rooms in the ground floor of the two-storey dormitory are like apartments and the price is very affordable while the place is safe and secure, he said.

Youngsters to get
swine fattening aid

The Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute through the 4-H Club Youth Development Program will turnover P300,000 to 30 youth beneficiaries to start their swine fattening production.

Senior agriculturist and chief of the technical services of ATI Mesitlie Deruel said this will help the youth to start their own livelihood project, train them to practice productive activities, and to motivate them to return to agricultural practices.

The fund is taken from the approved P500 million budget for the 2009-2013 project implementation as approved by the Department of Budget and Management, Deruel said.
