Barangay Salvacion softball team routed Barangay Zone 1, 11-7, to register its fourth win in five outings and take the lead against five other sides in the 2nd Mayor Andrew L. Montelibano Men’s Softball Cup in Murcia town.
The latest victory of the Ramiro Alintano-mentored batters strengthened their bid for the crown after blanking Hacienda Carmen, 6-0, and trouncing Hacienda Beri, 7-2 in separate encounter.
Skippered by Arnel Martinez, Salvacion also turned back Hacienda Binitin, 8-3, to remain on top of the team standings despite a 6-4 loss to Purok Sunrise in the earlier rounds.
Trailing the Salvacion nine were rivals from Binitin and Purok Sunrise, with an identical 3-2 win-loss card, followed by Beri and Carmen with 2-3, and Barangay Captain Enowis Pimentel’s Zone 1 with one win and four losses.
In basketball, Zone III defeated Zone II, 79-72, in the first quarterfinal match, as Abu-Abo dumped Damsite, 89-84, while Zone V and Salvacion beat Zone IV and Alegria, 80-77 and 83-63, respectively.
It was a short-lived celebration, however, for Zone V quintet, as Abu Abo dominated the next schedule, 110-104, while Zone IV bounced back by defeating Alegria, 84-77.
Salvacion continued its winning streak in basketball as it routed Zone II, 64-38.
In other schedules, Damsite defeated Zone V, 78-75; Zone III d. Abu Abo, 67-64; Alegria d. Zone II, 82-67; Salvacion d. Zone IV, 72-64; Zone V d. Zone II, 81-76; Salvacion d. Zone III, 89-78; Damsite d. Zone IV, 79-66, and Alegria overwhelmed Abu Abo, 82-64.*
