Both seeking their second win, St. John’s Institute and West Negros University Juniors teams will face each other this afternoon, 6 p.m., in Bracket B of the 2011 NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at the WNU Gym.
Despite having the homecourt advantage, the junior Mustangs are expected to deal with a tough opponent in SJI with teenage basketball sensation Kib Montalbo donning the Johnians’ jersey.
The young Mustangs, however, will not be a pushover as they seek to replicate the achievement of its seniors team that recently finished second in the 2011 PSC-University Games in Roxas City.
In another match-up, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will slug it out against Bacolod Tay Tung High School at 3 p.m., after the 1:30 p.m game between University of St. La Salle-IS and St. Benilde School.
The clash between St. Joseph School-La Salle and La Consolacion College at 3 p.m., is the lone match in Bracket A.
Meanwhile, the UNO-R high school girls’ team enjoys a 3-0 clean slate and is eyeing a sweep in their division as they hope to defend their title this year.
Posing a serious threat to UNO-R girls’ title retention bid is SJS-LS with a 2-1 record, while Mansilingan Christian Academy stays within striking distance with 1-2 card. MCA will play against SJI (0-3) tomorrow, 2:30 p.m., at the SJI homecourt.*NAB
