IN SIATON
Clarification sought on
‘Bingo Milyonaryo’

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Sangguniang Bayan of Siaton, Negros Oriental, has asked Secretary Leila de Lima of the Department of Justice for clarification on the legitimacy of the state-run online numbers game, Bingo Milyonaryo, in the province.

The letter was sent after alleged questionable operations of the sole Bingo Milyonaryo outlet in that town, particularly in Brgy. Sumaliring. It was reported that those formerly engaged in the illegal numbers game “swertres” were coerced by officials, particularly an anti-illegal gambling task force, to shift to Bingo Milyonaryo.

The officials also included the betting formats and procedures.

‘De Lima was just
following orders’

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

“Secretary Leila de Lima’s dilemma is that she cannot go against the wishes of the President.”

The statement came from Board Member Saleto Erames, in reaction to the non-implementation of the Temporary Restraining Order issued by the Supreme Court, allowing former President and Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to leave the country for medical treatment.

Erames said he believes that, being the alter ego of the President, the DOJ secretary was following orders, otherwise, she should resign.

Drug pusher falls
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

A buy-bust operation conducted by joint law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of Wendell Aragones, 54, married, of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, for alleged illegal possession and illegal sales of the prohibited drug, “shabu”.

Senior Insp. Carlos Lacuesta, Guihulngan police chief, said Aragones was arrested by the city police, Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Philippine National Police provincial office, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force.

Aragones was arrested Wednesday after an undercover agent bought a transparent plastic sachet of suspected shabu from him. Confiscated during the buy-bust operation were the “shabu” and P500 in marked bill.
