Police stations inspected
Four police stations in Bacolod City were inspected by the Task Force Night Watch head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, yesterday following complaints from concerned citizens.
Inspected by Rapiz and his group were Police Station 3 in Brgy. Bata, Police Station 6 in Brgy. Taculing, Police Station 7 in Brgy. Mansilingan, and Police Station 8 in Brgy. Tangub.
City police director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, on Wednesday said he received complaints that some police stations close at night while other policemen on duty are sleeping.
However, Rapiz said none of the police stations they inspected were closed and there were no sleeping policemen, contrary to the complaints reaching the office of the city police director.
Rapiz, accompanied by the media, is set to inspect other police stations.
De la Paz reminded the policemen to always be vigilant and not to close their police stations even during nighttime.
He said police stations should be open 24 hours and policemen should not be sleeping while on duty, so they can respond to complaints and crime situations.*APN back

Caro eyed as 3rd ID chief
Army Brig. Gen. Maximo Caro was reported yesterday to be a strong contender for commanding general of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Western Visayas, the position vacated by Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista.
Caro, former 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, however, said there are many Army senior officials who are also candidates for the position.
The appointment of Bautista as the new Army chief is expected to trigger a revamp among senior military officials occupying key positions nationwide, including the Western Visayas.
Col. Jonas Sumagaysay, successor of Caro as 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, is presently officer-in-charge of the 3rd Infantry Division stationed at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz, pending announcement of the successor of Bautista.
Caro, dean of PMA Corps of Cadets in Baguio City, in a text message, said he may have a new position in the Armed Forces of the Philippines early next year.
Bautista and Sumagaysay are members of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1981, while Caro belongs to PMA Class 1982.
The designation of Bautista as Army chief bypassed several senior Army officials, who are members of PMA Classes “78, “79 and “80.
The 3ID, which takes charge of the internal security operations in Negros and Panay islands, is composed of about 4,000 soldiers.
Brig. Gen. Manuel Luis Ochotorena, former 302nd Infantry Brigade commander in Negros Oriental, is now the assistant commander of the 6th Infantry Division in Mindanao. He is also a member of PMA Class 1982.*GPB back
