A resident of Baranggay Looc won the first prize in "The Return of the Doble Cara (The Comeback)", one of the highlights of the 63rd Charter Day and Fiesta Celebration Sunday at the Dumaguete City public market.
Arnold Dumahil of Zone 4, Looc, sang “Lagkaw” and bested 12 other contestants. The second place was won by Elmer Noay of Canday-ong who sang Pasayawa ko Day while in third place was Hanover Leonor, also from Looc, who sang “Endless Love.”
Dumahil received P3,500; Noay, P2,500; and Leonor P1,500. All three also received trophies.
Non-winners received P500 for participating in the contest.
The first Doble Cara was held in 2009 and due to public demand, it was brought back and was sponsored by the Dumaguete City government through Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria,the Federation of Dumaguete City Urban Poor, Federation of Dumaguete Motorcycle Operators and Drivers Association and the Sectoral Desks Office.
Meanwhile, 55 fishermen participated in the 2nd “Birik-Birik” Fishing Festival held Saturday at the Rizal Boulevard in connection with the 63rd Charter Day and Fiesta Celebration
City Hall sources said Jessica Layumas said that while last year the fishermen had a hard time because of the heavy downpour, this year strong winds challenged the participants in catching many fish.
But instead of selling their catch, the fishermen gave them to the organizers.
The first prize went to Jackson Ybañez with weight of catch of one kilo and 940 grams; Second and third places went to Edwil Libradilla with one kilo and 660 grams and Wilfredo Landay with 520 grams. The prizes were: P5,000 for first prize, P3.000 for the second prize, and P2,000 for the third prize.
The festival, held 6 a.m. to 12 noon was supported by the Filipino Anglers and the Rescue and Disaster Council of Dumaguete City.*JFP
