TB treatment ordinance
passes second reading

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

An ordinance establishing a comprehensive program on the treatment procedure for tuberculosis patients and its eradication in Bacolod City, was recently passed on second reading by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The ordinance, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the SP Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government,  aims to set up a program for TB patients in Bacolod and provide funds for it.

It  will also implement the unified policy for the Tuberculosis Control Program espoused by the National Government that will give support and give proper medical treatment to those who are suffering  from TB Distrito said.

It  said that Tuberculosis is the largest cause of deaths from a single infection worldwide, and affects one-third of the world’s population and remains a major public health problem, ranking 6th among the 10 leading causes of mortality in the country, making the Philippines 9th globally among 22 high TB-burdened countries according to the World Health Organization.

The ordinance will also promote the partnership of the local government of Bacolod with non-government organizations and offices that will be directly involved in the implementation of the National TB Program of the Philippines and  the active participation of the Barangays.

It will also create the TB Task Force that will monitor and supervise the Tuberculosis program together with the Bacolod City TB Council.

Councilors Em Legaspi Ang, Al Victor A. Espino, Roberto Rojas and Mona Dia Jardin are co-authors of the ordinance. *CGS
