Seeks help for patrol cars
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he has asked Philippine National Police Director General Nicanor Bartolome to help by donating additional patrol cars for the city police stations.

Leonardia said he has already written to Bartolome informing him about the inadequacy of patrol cars of the Bacolod City police, and is also set to discuss this with the PNP chief during his visit to the city on Friday.

The mayor said that while the city government is helping the Bacolod police in acquiring patrol cars, the PNP should also donate vehicles to be utilized as patrol cars.

Leonardia noted that the last time PNP donated a vehicle to BCPO was in 2007 during the time of former PNP chief Raul Bacalzo.

While there are not enough patrol cars yet for all police stations in Bacolod, Leoanardia ordered City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz to recall the vehicles of other police units and give them to the police stations with no patrol cars.

De la Paz said he will recall the vehicles used by the Intelligence branch and by the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group and give them to police stations with no patrol cars.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City Bids and Awards Committee chairman, Goldwyn Nifras, said yesterday that those who are interested to sell vehicles to be utilized as patrol cars of the city police are now invited to submit their bids.

Nifras said they had already published in local dailies the invitation to interested bidders and will announce the winning bidder in 20 days.

He said the bidding for the acquisition of the vehicles with approved budget cost of P3.5 million was made in August but the bidding was declared a failure as there were no bidders.

De la Paz had requested for Mitsubishi cars after BAC had earlier denied the purchase of six Foton vehicles because they were considered “under power”.

However, Nifras clarified that Foton motors can still join the bidding if, this time, they meet the requirements set by BAC.

On Tuesday, Police Station 2 failed to arrest a man who robbed a taxi driver Celso Bernadas and carnapped his taxi Tuesday due to lack of a patrol car. They had to take another cab to respond to the incident.*APN
