Baby abandoned
on Manapla road

BY CARLA GOMEZ

A baby girl wrapped in a maroon skirt, which looked liked a school uniform, and found abandoned on the side of the road in Barangay Tortosa, Manapla, is now being cared for at the town’s health center, Mayor Lourdes Escalante said yesterday.

The child who appears to only be days old has fair complexion and cute dimples, the mayor said.

A Cadiz City resident spotted the baby at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday and informed the nearby Victorias-Manapla-Cadiz Rural Electrification Service personnel about it. They, in turn, called the Manapla police, Escalante added.

The baby has been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and is being given a seven-day antibiotics treatment at the Manapla health center, she said.

Later the baby will be turned over to the Holy Infant Nursery Foundation in Barangay Sum-ag, in Bacolod, Escalante said.

There are several persons who have expressed interest in adopting the child but the mayor said those interested will have to go through the DSWD that is now in charge of her custody, she added.

The mayor said they have no idea yet who abandoned the baby on the roadside.*CPG
