A gasoline station owner who shot a man who allegedly attempted to holdup his business establishment voluntarily surrendered to the police in Bacong, Negros Oriental on Monday.

The suspect identified as Alfin Soligue was rushed to a hospital in Dumaguete City with a gunshot wound on his left arm and a graze on his head, after the incident with Manuel Aurea, Bacong police chief, Senior Insp. Leopoldo Ijan, said.

Initial police investigation showed that Soligue arrived at the refilling station at about 4 a.m. Monday, and allegedly pulled out a knife and announced a hold-up.

An argument between the two roused other employees sleeping within the premises and one of them smashed a plastic chair at Soligue, who fled on board his motorcycle, the police said.

Police proceeded to Soligue’s house in Barangay Timbanga, Bacong, with the gas attendant at whom the suspect had poked his knife.

Ijan said, however, that the gas attendant, fearing repercussions refused to make a citizen’s arrest.

At about 8 p.m., Soligue reportedly returned to the gas station, looking for the person who had hit him with the chair.

The employees called their boss, Manuel Aurea, who tried to calm down Soligue, but the latter attacked him with a knife, but missed.  Aurea reportedly fired two warning shots but when Soligue tried to come closer, Aurea shot him in the arm, police investigation showed.

Witnesses said they heard at least four shots being fired at the crime scene.

Soligue fled again, and sought help from a relative at the public market, who called for assistance from the police who brought Soligue in an ambulance to a hospital in Dumaguete, Ijan said.

Aurea who surrendered and voluntarily turned over his licensed 9-MM hand gun, and some live rounds of ammunition to the police, is now under detention.

Ijan said both Soligue and Aurea will be charged in court.*JFP
