Dangerous ‘lovers lane’ dismantled
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Several huts and old structures near the BREDCO port in Bacolod City, that served as a “lover’s lane“, were dismantled by the management following the fatal shooting of a teenager by a man he tried to stop from molesting his girlfriend in the area on Sunday.

City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday that the management of BREDCO decided to dismantle the structures to prevent such incidents in the area, which he said was being used as a “lover’s lane” by couples.

After the killing of Joshua Lopez, 16, of Doña Juliana Subdivision in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod Sunday, the BREDCO management has strictly implemented the “no entry” policy to the area, De la Paz said.

Even before the killing of Lopez, there had been incidents of couples victimized by robbers in the same area because it is too secluded and far from the main road, he said.

De la Paz also said that they are coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation for a facial sketch of the suspect in the killing of Lopez.

He also disclosed that they have invited several possible witnesses to shed light on the crime and that personnel have been tasked to track the suspect.

Lopez and his girlfriend were seeking shelter under a huge rock at the seawall near the port at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the suspect came, shot Lopez, and molested his girlfriend while the victim lay dying.

The girl managed to escape after biting the hand of the suspect and was able to seek help.*APN
