Househelper, three minors
rescued from ‘maltreatment’

A joint team from the Philippine National Police, the Commission on Human Rights, the municipal Social Welfare Office, and barangay officials, on Friday afternoon took into their custody three minor female and one male house helpers who were allegedly manhandled by their employers in Barangay Suludpan, Bacong town, Negros Oriental.

The three minors, all 17 years old, from Bonawon, Siaton in Negros Oriental, were rescued after some relatives, and barangay officials took away the house boy, “Roel”, 28, Thursday, town police chief, Senior Insp. Leopoldo Ijan, said.

Lucky Terminal 5
grabs Sandurot title

Lucky Terminal grabbed the championship crown by scoring 85-75, in  the Sandurot Open Fiesta Invitational Basketball Championship at the Dumaguete City Multi-Purpose Gym.

Early in the first quarter, Lucky Terminal led the game with 22-19. By the start of the fourth quarter, however, Sta. Catalina got back in the game and caught up with Lucky Terminal, with the latter only 6 points ahead in the last 3:50 minutes of play.  Sta. Catalina five settle for  second place.

 Bayawan City bagged the third place after defeating SL Enterprise with a final score of 86-79.

Marijuana bricks
seized during raid

A suspected drug pusher was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation at 9:10 p.m. Thursday at the junction of the north national highway and E.J. Blanco Road in Daro, Dumaguete City at the height of the city’s 63rd charter day anniversary.

An initial police report identified the suspect as Arvin Duhaylungsod, 29, married, of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, and currently residing in Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete.

Seized from Duhaylungsod were two bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves placed inside a bag, a P500 marked bill on top of “boodle” or entrapment money, and 12 match boxes containing suspected dried marijuana leaves from the U-box of the suspect’s motorcycle.
