Various criminal raps
filed vs. former convict

The Bacolod City Police filed charges for rape in relation to child abuse with attempted homicide and murder before the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday against a former convict, who allegedly shot and killed a teenager and raped his girlfriend at the seawall near the BREDCO port in Bacolod City Sunday.

City police director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said they filed the charges against Ariel de la Cruz of Purok Mambuloc in Brgy. 10, Bacolod City.

De la Cruz was positively identified by his friend, who served as witness to the crime, as the one who shot and killed Joshua Lopez, 16, of Doña Juliana Subdivision in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod Sunday who was with his girlfriend as they were seeking shelter in the area.

Based on initial investigation, the suspect was with his friends on Sunday when he saw the victim and his girlfriend go to the seawall.

Witness Philip Peralta said in a television interview that De la Cruz approached the couple, shot Lopez and raped his girlfriend.

De la Cruz, who had been released from the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City only two weeks ago, is now at large.*APN

‘Put up CCTV’s in
internet cafes’

Bacolod City Police Special Operations Group head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, yesterday urged Internet cafés to set up close circuit television cameras so thieves could easily be identified.

A “salisi thief” was caught recently on a CCTV camera as he was stealing the cellular phone of a customer at the Screensaver Internet café at Luzuriaga Street, Bacolod.

In a 50-second video posted on You Tube, the thief, who was wearing a white shirt and denim pants was seen entering the internet café, going behind the female customer, taking her cellular phone placed beside the computer monitor, and leaving immediately.

The female customer, who was busy using the computer, did not notice the thief, the video also showed.

Since the suspect’s face was also caught on video, Rapiz said, it will be easy for them to identify and arrest him.

While CCTV cameras could help identify thieves victimizing internet café customers, it would be best if customers are security conscious and do not leave their things unattended, Rapiz said.*APN
