Athletes from Himamaylan City captured the most number of gold medals in both elementary and secondary divisions to dominate the sports competition in the 2011 Area V Athletics and Cultural Meet hosted by the town of Binalbagan.
The contingent from Himamaylan tallied a total of 485 points, 215 points in elementary and 270 points in secondary, to capture the overall championship, while Hinigaran placed second with 440 points (196.5 in elementary and 243.5 in secondary).
La Castellana landed in third place after earning 316 points, while Isabela placed fourth with 275 points, Binalbagan at fifth place with 238 points, and Moises Padilla, sixth place with 206 points.
Himamaylan dominated elementary boys and girls’ athletics, elementary boy’s volleyball, sepak takraw, elementary boys’ basketball, boys’ chess, football, boys’ badminton, and boxing.
In the secondary division, the Himamaylanons bagged the gold in boys and girls’ athletics, boys and girls’ basketball, football, boys and girls’ badminton, and boxing.
Hinigaran captured the crown in elementary boys’ table tennis, boys and girls’ swimming, and girls’ taekwondo and secondary girls’ softball, boys’ table tennis and boys and girls’ swimming.
La Castellana topped the elementary boys’ table tennis, secondary girls’ volleyball, secondary boys and girls’ chess, secondary boys’ lawn tennis, and secondary boys and girls’ taekwondo.
Isabela won in elementary little league softball, elementary girls’ volleyball and secondary girls’ lawn tennis.
Binalbagan prevailed in elementary boys’ basketball, elementary girls’ table tennis, elementary girls’ badminton, elementary boys’ taekwondo and secondary boys’ sepak takraw, while Moises Padilla won the elementary and secondary boys’ junior baseball.
All winners will represent Area V in the Provincial Meet set on December 17 at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.*NAB
