11 policemen get medals
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Task Force Gequillana members were conferred the Medalya ng Kasanayan by PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome for the arrest of the prime suspect in the assassination of a Sangguniang Bayan member of Ilog, Negros Occidental, on July 27.

The recipients of the medals were Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, Supts. Santiago Rapiz and Lazaro Sumague, Chief Inspectors Noel Polines, Leonardo Borromeo, Adonis Rosales, Ernor Melgarejo, Cesar Paday-os, Senior Inspector Argel Ancheta, SPO2 Romel Parcon, and PO2 Raymond Bandojo.

They were endorsed by Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas.

De la Paz, Rapiz, Parcon and Bandojo received the Medalya ng Kasanayan from Bartolome yesterday at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.

The suspected gunman of Ilog Councilor Antonio Gequillana, identified as Ryan Gatoc, was arrested in Kabankalan City on Aug. 18, and is now facing murder charges in court. He was also denied bail, and is detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facilities in Bacolod City.

In his General Orders Number 537, Querol cited De la Paz and 10 others for their exemplary acts in performing their duties and responsibilities, which led to the arrest of Gatoc in Brgy. 1, Kabankalan City, three weeks after the assassination of Gequillana in front of a hotel in Bacolod City.

The hearings on the petition for bail of Gatoc have been scheduled on Dec. 6 and 14.*GPB
