Jaguars rule Albee Badminton Cup

Shuttlers from Jaguar Badminton Academy continue their reign in local badminton scene as they captured most of the gold and silver medals offered during the Congressman Albee Benitez Badminton Cup 2011 held November 26-27 at the Pohang Badminton Court in Bacolod City.

Jaguars Ernesto Layao and Robert Aloyan booked the gold in Level A Mixed Doubles, with Layao also dominating the Level A singles competition by beating Don Cuyno of University of St. La Salle.

It was a silver finish for Jaguar pair Sarah Sabino and Rogel Managasi in Level B Mixed Doubles as they failed to contain the equally impressive performance from Bhea Isidro and Mike Minuluan in the championship round.

‘Sports Ordinance’

An ordinance known as the Bacolod Sports and Development Ordinance of 2011 was passed on second reading by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City recently.

Authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the SP Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government, the ordinance aims to have a comprehensive sports development program that will involve the greater participation of young people in Bacolod in the year long activities that will be formulated by the Bacolod City Sports Development Council that will be created by this proposed ordinance.

Distrito said the present sports body remains ineffective and non-functional, and resulted in the deprivation of the citizens of Bacolod of an appropriate and effective sports development program.
