A resolution supporting the Gabriela Partylist proposal contained in House Bill 5331 for the passage of a law that will provide financial assistance to distressed Overseas Filipino Workers, is being proposed by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor.
The resolution said it has been observed that a big number of our OFW’s have been displaced and repatriated in cases of natural and man-made calamities in their host countries and for various reasons such as abusive employment, human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
The resolution said Partylist solons Luzviminda Ilagan and Emmi De Jesus have pushed for the passage of House Bill 5331 which provides that a distressed OFW will get P50,000 financial assistance within seven days after filing of an application that will form part of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration program package for distressed OFWs.
Verdeflor also authored another resolution commemorating and declaring the observance of World AIDS Day in Bacolod City on December 2, 2011 and enjoining all departments and agencies to support and participate in the celebration.
Meanwhile, a resolution enjoining the support of the Bacolod City government , its department, agencies and constituents for the barangay-initiated eco-tourism program of Barangay Punta-Taytay or the “Christmas by the Sea” or “Paskua sa Baybayon sang Punta Taytay” and promoting Brgy. Punta Taytay as a family-oriented eco-tourism destination of Bacolod City, is also being proposed by Verdeflor.
The resolution said the Barangay Council of Barangay Punta Taytay has identified this unique project for the Yuletide Season in their quest to make Punta Taytay a family-oriented eco-tourism destination of Bacolod City.
