The contingency measures of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City were in place, in preparation for the onslaught of Tropical Storm “Ramon”, with storm signal number one up over Negros Island last night, Acting Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. and Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.

In a bulletin issued at 11 last night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration hoisted Storm Signal No. 1 over Negros Occidental and Oriental, from an earlier bulletin that only covered northern Negros. Winds of 45-60 kph are expected within the next 36 hours, it said.

Leonardia last night issued Executive Order No. 25 suspending classes in all preschool and elementary levels in Bacolod City as a preemptive measure due to unpredictable weather.moremoremore

Bacolod for MassKara

A temporary city-wide gun ban in Bacolod City while the MassKara festival is ongoing has been approved by Philippine National Police chief, Director General Nicanor Bartolome, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.

All Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) are temporarily suspended from October 1 to 19 in Bacolod City, Bartolome ordered.

In a letter to the Police Regional Office-6 yesterday, Bartolome said stressed that only the members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcers who are performing official duties, and those who are in uniform will be allowed to carry their firearms.moremoremore

Talisay wins
trailblazer ISA award

With the vision of making Talisay City a “Village City: A Model for Balance Development by 2040,” Mayor Eric Saratan and the Talisay PGS Team scored another victory yesterday with the Trailblazer Award granted by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia, after passing the compliance stage with highest distinction.

Talisay City is now the first city in Negros Occidental to be recognized as an ISA partner, a press release from the city said.

Saratan said the hard work has just started and their resolve to work harder to attain the next level, the Proficiency Stage, has become stronger as they are inspired by the recognition of ISA of their efforts.moremoremore
