More than a hundred grade school children from the Maslog Elementary School are beneficiaries of the CommuniTeach program of Saint Paul University Dumaguete and Smart Communications.
This is an outreach program of the College of Education from Saint Paul University-Dumaguete that is supported by Smart Communications under the Kabalikat sa Edukasyon.
The CommuniTeach was launched with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Dep Ed Negros Oriental Division, Saint Paul University-Dumaguete, Smart Communications and the Maslog Elementary School.
The program aims to help grade school children from grade 1,2 and 3 to improve their reading and comprehension skills. A group of volunteer student teachers from SPUD will assist the regular teachers in giving lessons to the children.
The student teacher volunteers are trained by the pool of facilitators from Smart Communications under the Read to Learn program of the Kabalikat sa Edukasyon campaign to encourage children to love reading books through storytelling and use of visual aids.
Maria Jane Paredes, Senior Manager, public Affairs-VisMin of Smart Communications, said they are working with partner schools like SPUD in Negros Oriental in the implementation of the program.
Dr. Ma. Milagros Velez, Division Superintendent of Dep Ed Negros Oriental Division, said the program is a big boost to the education system of the province.
She also thanked SPUD and Smart Communications and said she hopes that more schools in the province will benefit from the program.
Sister Nintha Lucilla Baldado, SPUD president, expressed gratitude for the program and hopes that the program will continue and benefit more children in the province.*MA
