Ilonggo movie proposed

Multi-awarded filmmaker Brillante Mendoza yesterday said that he is open to the possibility of collaborating with Negrense artists in making a movie about Ilonggos.

Mendoza, who is in Bacolod City for the two-day special showing of his films at the SM City-Bacolod Cinemas, said that if he does a movie about Ilonggos, it will be different and unique.

“I want that the movie will showcase the different characteristics of Ilonggos, something that other people don’t know yet”, Mendoza said.

Mendoza said that most of his films tackle social issues so it will be an eye-opener to what the real situation is in the community today. He said that he would rather continue to produce independent films which are more realistic because some of those produced nowadays are no longer truthful.

Mendoza said he is also roaming around the country to train young film makers and emphasize the importance of independent film-making.

Among Mendoza’s award-winning films are “Lola”, “Foster child”, “Kaleldo” and “Masahista” and “Serbis”, that launched the career of actor Coco Martin.

Mendoza’s other films will also be shown at the Negros Museum on Friday.*APN

PRRM marks anniversary

The Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement-Negros, a local affiliate of one of the oldest primary non-government organizations in the country, and a staunch advocate of sustainable rural development, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this month until December 2011, a PRRM press release said.

PRRM president Isagani Serrano and members of its National Office will be in Negros Occidental today until Oct. 17 to visit its project areas and will pay courtesy calls on Gov. Alfredo Maranon, and other local chief executives.

PRRM-Negros will also host a forum on development and governance on the morning of Oct. 14 to kick off its anniversary celebration, the press release said.

The group had initiated community organizing and mobilized various sectors including landless workers, poor upland farmers, marginal fishers, rural women, youth and professionals thru a package of programs and services including community development, policy advocacy, popular education,  basic  social services and primary health care, local infrastructures, sustainable agriculture and fisheries,  social enterprise and rural finance initiatives,  renewable energy, and other development projects.

PRRM-Negros acts as a network and coalition builder and serves as secretariat or co-convenor of regional and local civil society networks including the Western Visayas Network of Social Development NGOs, Negros Caucus of Development NGOs, Freedom from Debt Coalition, Negros Coalition for Social Change, Bacolod Citizens Alliance for Good Governance, Negros Environment Watch, Save Mt.
