Officials lead inauguration
of P24M hospital building

The new building of the Gov. Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in Himamaylan City was inaugurated Monday with Fifth District Board Members Melvin Ibanez and Emilio Yulo, III and Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon leading the ceremonies, a press release from Capitol said.

The blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a short program where Ibanez, who represented Gov. Alfredo Maranon, Jr. said that more equipment and facilities will be given to the hospital to further upgrade and modernize it as part of the priority program on health of the present administration.

The construction worth P24M includes female medical wards and male medical wards with comfort rooms, hospital beds and wall fans; nurse station, pediatric ward, medicare rooms, and canteen, the press release said.

Bascon thanked the provincial government for the project that he said will surely improve health services in the city and neighboring towns.

Present at the activity were 5th District Board Members Emilio Yulo, III; former Assemblyman, Bob Gatuslao; Himamaylan Vice Mayor, Carminia Bascon; Economic Enterprise and Development Department Head, Japhet Masculino; Hospital Operations Division Head, Dr. Rhoel Mogul; Hospital Chief, Dr. Glicerio Javellana; and Acting Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa.*

EDC, NVC holds feeding

The Energy Development Corp. yesterday linked up with the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation Inc. for a six-month feeding program in its host community in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, with 60 infants and toddlers as beneficiaries.

Maxino, EDC vice-president of the Northern Negros Geothermal Production Field, said the children will be fed with complimentary food that complies with the United Nations specifications through a systematic and holistic system.

This is on top of their ongoing feeding programs in elementary schools of host communities Murcia and Bago City, started in previous years.

EDC has provided P200,000 in a joint undertaking with NVC

NVC Foundation Inc. president Millie Kilayko said the “Start Right, Live Bright” program, which is now operating in 12 areas, is targeting 5,000 children as beneficiaries within a two-year period.

Kilayko, who was joined by Board Member Patrick Lacson, his mother, Tima, and Murcia Vice Mayor Gerry Rojas in the launching of the feeding program at the 303rd Infantry Brigade Multi-Purpose Hall in Brgy, Minoyan, Murcia, said there will be a daily monitoring on the status of beneficiaries.

Kilayko said, a study of the World Health Organization, indicates that the most vulnerable period of child development is from the period of 6-30 months, with breast milk alone is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of the growing child on years onwards

USLS receives PERAA Awards

The University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City announced in a press release that it received two institutional awards during the 39th Private Education Retirement Annuity Association Anniversary celebration held at the Mallberry Suites in Cagayan de Oro recently, the USLS press release said.

Vice Chancellor for Finance Jocelyn Aragon and Human Resource and Development Services Director Ernest Marvin Latiza received the awards in behalf of the university.

The university was given the Platinum Award for reaching the P50M membership contribution. Another award was the Model Employer Award, as two university employees were chosen as PERAA outstanding members - Dr. Romeo G. Teruel for Administrative Category Level and Mary Jean Lee Patindol for Teaching Level B Category.

The awards were given by Dr. Antonio Samson SJ and Dr. Bernadette Nepomuceno, PERAA board chairman and president, respectively.

Another Lasallian who also made it to the finals for the non-teaching category is Guidance Evaluation Center secretary, Yvonne Bina-oro.*

ABS-CBN Bacolod
Golden Dove finalist

ABS-CBN Bacolod and several of its programs are finalists in the 20th Golden Dove Awards of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, a press release from ABS-CBN said yesterday.

The Bacolod station of the Kapamilya network was nominated for Best Television Station (provincial) with two other television networks.

TV Patrol Negros was also nominated for Best Newscast (provincial), with TV Patrol Iloilo and TV Patrol Tacloban.

Ryan Gamboa, anchor of TV Patrol Negros, was nominated for Best Newscaster, with Tony Velasquez of Studio 23, who is also from ABS-CBN.

The station's public affiars program, Salandigan, which is now on its second year and hosted by Gamboa, has been nominated for Best Public Affiairs Program (provincial).

For Best Radio Station Promotional Material, My Only Radio (MOR) 101. 5 Concern Ulikid plug was also included in the list.

Leilani Salem-Alba, manager of ABS-CBN stations in Bacolod and Iloilo, said the network is proud of these nominations as they show “the standards of excellence and public service that the network is imbibing,” the press release said..
