UST, FEU snare gold medals
in PSC – UniGames athletics

ROXAS CITY - University of  Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University stamped their class in athletics as both teams plucked three gold medals each, out of the eight final events contested in the 16th PSC – University Games yesterday at the Villareal Stadium here.

Ilongga Josie Malacad replicated her feat in the 2011 UAAP meet with a golden finish in women’s 800 meters, finishing the event in 2 minutes and 19.60 seconds, while Jilla Dela Rosa of UST settled for the silver with a time of 2 minutes and 18.97 seconds and Michelle Villas of host Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion salvaging the bronze with her 2:20.10 time.

instant `star’ in Capiz town

ROXAS CITY - The West Negros University Mustangs and the University of St. La Salle Stingers drew a large crowd of screaming supporters when they played and beat their opponents in separate games yesterday at Dadivas Gym in Panit-an town, Capiz.

The Mustangs, who captured their 13th straight NOPSSCEA crown last week, demolished Iloilo team John B. Lacson Foundation Memorial University, 83-52, while the Stingers routed home team Filamer Christian University, 103-73.

3rd GAEV Chess final

After battling equally tough rivals in six rounds, Ellan Asuela and Club Master Ted Ian Montoyo faced each other last night to dispute the title in the

Final round of the 2011 3rd George Aguirre/Eugenio Villanueva Memorial Negros Open Individual Chess Tournament at the Captel Hotel in Bacolod City.

Asuela drew with NM Nelson Villanueva after 27 moves of Reti to earn a half point for a total of 5.5 points after six rounds, while Montoyo beat Eric Abanco in 64 moves of Benoni to get the full 5 points to advance into the final round.
