4D cruises to twin wins
in USLS/LNA7 cagefest

Glenn Trabasas played the hero as 4D ’92-93 tamed the Glitters Production, 85-82, Friday night then pulled off an 80-72 victory against South Gate Inn the next day in the LNA7/USLS Alumni Inter-Barkada Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.

It was a come-from-behind win for 4D against the Glitters as they trailed most of the way until the fourth quarter.

Down by 12 points at 53-65 after the third quarter, Trabasas led the 4D run to cut the lead to 59-65 as Rico Loarca completed a 3-point play to further cut the deficit to three points.

But Glitters’ Aspero nailed a triple and temporarily extended the lead to five points, 69-64.

Entering the two-minute minute mark, G. Baldonado scored a lay-up for 4D to cut the lead down to a point, 69-68, intercepted a pass and completed a breakaway lay-up for his team’s first lead in the game, 70-69.

However, Glitters’ Castellano scored a back-to-back basket at the mid-area to put his team on top, 74-72, but Trabasas nailed a 3-pointer for 4D’s 75-74 lead.

Herrera then hit two consecutive jumpers to give Glitters some breathing space, 80-75.

With 1:11 left in the ball game, the lead back to 4D, 81-80, but Chan scored a short jumper with 49 seconds left to bring back the lead to Glitters 82-81.

But Hinojas was sent to the foul line for a pair of free throws after he was fouled down low with 41.9 left. However, he split his charities to equalize the game at 82-all.

As the game clock winded down, the Glitters forced their shots hoping to gain back lead before the buzzer, but missed their opportunities as Castellano was called for a foul on Leo Abao with 17.4 remaining. He missed his first free throw for an 83-82 slim lead.

Running against the time, Glitters again missed a forced shot as Trabasas was fouled after picking up the rebound with two seconds left. He completed his charities and sealed the game, 85-82.

Glitters led the game as much as 15 points back in the third period.

In the match against South Gate Inn, the 4D entered the final quarter with a two-point advantage, 51-49, but the advantage fizzled out as Randy Dilig hit a triple and put South Gate on top.

Lead changes continued until Hinojas started to nail his shots on strong drives making him unstoppable in the shaded area.

Meanwhile, despite his good performance Archie Tiongco fouled out with 41 seconds left after fouling Abao on the rebound play. Abao completed his free throws for a 79-72 lead but Hinojas sealed the match on a buzzer beater lay-up, 80-72.

Trabasas led 4D with 22 points as Baldonado scored 18, Abao 15 and Hinojas 14 with all his points coming from the fourth quarter.

On the other hand, Akasya Grill won over Strollers, 87-69.*
