Is PNP reg’l chief set for transfer?
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Is Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol on his way out as regional police director of Western Visayas?

The question came up when the names of Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal and Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo cropped up yesterday among those being groomed to replace Querol in Region 6.

Rafal is now the police regional director of Caraga, while Garbo served as the deputy director for the PNP Directorate for Operations, police records show.

The assumption of the new Philippine National Police chief on Sept. 9, after the retirement of PNP chief Raul Bacalzo, is expected to trigger a revamp among officers occupying key positions in the PNP.

President Benigno Aquino III, however, begged off from naming the successor of Bacalzo yesterday, saying he will announce it in due time.

“The incoming and the outgoing PNP chief will have to tidy up their affairs. And I think I will also have to talk to the incoming PNP chief one more time,” Aquino said.

Bacalzo is stepping down as PNP chief on Friday, six days before he officially retires at the age 56 on Sept. 15

PNP deputy director general Nicanor Bartolome, chief of the PNP Directorial Staff, and Samuel Pagdilao Jr., director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, are reportedly among the front liners to replace Bacalzo

Pagdilao had served as regional police director of Western Visayas for less than a year.

Yesterday reports said that Querol is on his way to a higher position in the PNP hierarchy, either as chief of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence, Logistics or Comptrollership.*GPB
