The Philippine Ports Authority has reported that the country's cargo output for the first six months of 2011 reached 35.13 million metric tons or 0.23 percent higher than the 33.65 MMT posted in the same period last year.

It attributed the increase to more positive developments in the country's key ports.

Containerized cargo shipments hit the 2.426 MMT mark or 13.14 percent higher than the year-ago volume.

Domestic cargo grew by 23.76 percent while foreign container traffic soared by 7.80 percent. *PNA
