Mayor Albert Ator has assured homeless constituents of Siaton town in Negros Oriental that one of his priorities will be providing them with decent homes, not at the expense of government, but from his own pockets.
Ator told the DAILY STAR he has real properties in almost all the barangays of Siaton and in other parts of the province and he is willing to provide his people parcels of land and help in putting up low-cost housing units.
In Barangay Siit, a coastal barangay, Ator said, almost two hectares of land owned by his family will be distributed to homeless families. He, however, said the distribution will be on a phase-by-phase basis.
Ator is also helping seven families from the town proper relocate to his lot in Mantuyop, Siaton with free housing units provided.
He said he felt their need, being in their shoes before and having only one daughter, these properties are more than enough for them, so he is giving them to the poor.
Political quarters, however, were quick to criticize this, saying the mayor is not doing it without expecting something in return.*JG
