DSWD reaches
out to Sagaynons

The Department of Social Welfare and Development  reached out to  residents  of Sagay City, Negros Occidental  yesterday as it joined the Ombudsman’s Caravan of Social Services on Friday, a DSWD press release said.

The DSWD released  P376,000 to 147 small-scale farmers and fisherfolk  of Sagay under its Assistance through Cash for Work and Training Program,  and conduct a ceremonial feeding for pre-schoolers under its Supplementary Feeding program,  DSWD regional director Minda  Brigoli said.

The program is the national government’s answer to to cushion small-scale farmers and fisherfolk on the effects of high prices of commodities, she said, adding that the DSWD is encouraging community participation and at the same time train beneficiaries on disaster preparedness.  Present was Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas Pelagio Apostol, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. of Negros Occidental, Rep. Alfredo Marañon III  (Neg. Occ.) of 2nd District and Rep.  Mercedes Alvarez  (3rd District).

The DSWD also showcased its convergence strategy — the  complementation in the implementation of its three core programs identified as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, KALAHI-CIDSS or Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services and Sustainable Livelihood and Guaranteed Employment, the press release said.

The DSWD also conducted  ceremonial feeding to  60 pre-schoolers  from the city’s Poblacion.

The agency also  opened its three systems for beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilya. These include the Grievance Redress System, Beneficiaries Updating System  and Compliance Verification System, the press release said.

The caravan was participated in by the  Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, PNP, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fish and Aquatic Resources, National Statistics Office and Department of Foreign Affairs, the press release added.*
