UNO-R honors 7th placer

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and its College of Arts and Sciences honored the Negros Occidental High School and the City Government of Bacolod in a ceremony at NOHS yesterday for producing a 7th placer in the Medical Technology Licensure Examination 2011 in the person of Michael John Mondragon, a UNO-R press release said.

The recognition of the high school where the topnotcher graduated from is a new addendum to the linkage program of the university where it recognizes the efforts of the high schools in molding the basic education of the person.

The university also recognizes the local government of a city or municipality in producing an exemplary citizen like that of the top notchers in the board examinations, it said.

Councilor Cesar Distrito received the plaque of recognition for the City of Bacolod, while NOHS principal, Mario Amaca, received the plaque for NOHS.

Rev. Fr. Dionisio Cachero - UNO-R president, Mondragon and Glenn Salve - head of the UNO-R Medical Technology Department gave messages. *

Urban poor
assembly Sunday

The Federation of Urban Poor in Negros Occidental will hold its First Biennial Celebration and Assembly at the Barangay Tangub Gymnasium in Bacolod City, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

A Holy Mass will be officiated by Fr. Aniceto Buenafe, Social Action Center Director of the Diocese of Bacolod, at 8:30 a.m. followed by an inspirational message from guest of honor, Arnel Lapore, Central Negros Electric Cooperative president, a press release from FED-UP said.

Also invited are the commissioners and the chairperson of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor from Quezon City who will give updates on the status of the covenant of the Urban Poor Alliance with President Noynoy Aquino, it said.

The activity will be attended by member associations from Bacolod City, Silay City, La Castellana and Manapla, Negros Occidental.

Anthony Tiberio, FED-UP president will report on the federation’s accomplishments and activities from September 2009 to August 31, 2011 based on their programs on Good Governance, Advocacy, Membership and Leadership Formation and Trainings, Employment and Livelihood, Social Services and Disaster Preparedness and Relief Services, the press release said.

FED-UP will also hold a dialog-interaction with the PCUP officers 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and urban poor federations.*

Silay storytelling activity set

“Silay Story Telling – Turismo”, a joint project of Silay City government and the Bachelor of Library and Information Science of La Consolacion College–Bacolod will be held in Adela Folklore Village Saturday by the BLIS Organization supervised by Eden Yong, project head, a Silay City press release said.

The recipients of the storytelling, pre-school books and feeding programs will be the kinder pupils of the sugarcane workers at Hda. Adela ,Brgy. Lantad.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said residents of Silay are now the fruits of the Mayor Jose Montelibano Scholarship Program for teachers, government employees and students, the press release said.

Storytellers are Emilie Gallano, Richelle Reyes, Carmen Gumawa, and Roselyn Pacete, the press release said.*

13 Child’s Place pupils honored

Thirteen pupils of A Child’s Place Kumon Center were honored at the Kumon Advance Student Forum held at the Westown Hotel in Iloilo City recently for reaching study levels that are, at least, five grade levels above their current school grade, a press release from the center said.

The awardees were Nathan Dy, Lorenzo Velez, Alexa Agabon, Jorge Montelibano, Anton Lim, Aaron Lim, Angelie Lim, Janina Alejano, Zachary Enriquez, Klyde Montalbo, Samantha Legaspi, Miguel Ledesma and Sharmaine Vergara who was also awarded the Completer’s Award in Reading.

Vergara is the first and only double subject completer of the Kumon Math and Reading Programs in Bacolod City, the press release added.*
