Bago City lived up to the hype of being the “Boxing Capital” of Negros Occidental by capturing 15 out of the 17 championships in the 4th District Inter-LGU Amateur Boxing Tournament held recently at the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines gym in the City.
Bagoeño Peter Atilledo (Bago-A) stopped teammate Joselido dela Cruz with 40 seconds left in the first round to capture the title in the 26 kgs. and advance to the 2nd Governor’s Cup Boxing Championships slated second week of October.
In the 28 kgs, Neil Tambanillo won over Elmer Gregorio Jr. of La Carlota City by points as another Bagoeño Jay Mar Jaga beat Rogil Tagle (La Carlota City) also by points in the 30 kgs.
Jerry Sammuel dela Cruz (Bago City-A) won over Arvin Flores (Bago City – B) by points in the 32 kgs. as Allan Libo-on (Bago City – A) halted John Micheal Andres (Bago City – B) in 41 seconds of the opening round.
Mario Jaga Jr. stopped La Carlota City’s Arjay Tagle in the third round of their battle in the 36 kgs.
In the 40 kgs, Fernando Taborite (Bago City – A) won over John Lee Nuviedo (La Carlota City) by points as Adrian Tambanillo, also of Bago City – A, defeated Nicole Villarma of Bago City – B by points in the 42 kgs.
Jesmar Jaga (Bago City – A) prevailed over Ramonito Ladon (Bago City – B) in the 45 kgs – 16 under and Bago City – A’s Raymart Flores prevailed over Louie Cordova (Bago City – B) by points in the 45 kgs – 19 under division.
For the second time Martin Cordova will be representing Bago City in the Governor’s Cup Boxing Championships after he beat Wevefredo Victoriano (Bago City – B) by points.
Also winning their bouts for Bago City A were Rafael Sueño, Ruleen Dingcong and James Pacite, who stopped their respective opponents from La Carlota City.
Sueño halted Junder Gregorio with 29 seconds in the first round of the 51 kgs., as Dingcong ended Wilfredo Vidal bid for the title in 48 seconds, also in the first round of the 54 kgs. Pacite beat Junryl Tara-Tara in 1:51 of the first round of the 57 kgs.
Elson and Raymond Toledo outclassed their respective rivals, with Elson defeating Bago City – B’s Nestor Gonzaga by points in the 60 kgs, while Raymond triumphed over Patrick Romeo Gagatan of La Carlota City by points in the 64 kgs.*
