Regulation of
ammo sale sought

An ordinance setting the requirements in the sale of bullets and ammunitions of any caliber by gun stores or establishments in Bacolod City is being proposed by Councilor Archie Baribar, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Human Rights.

The ordinance, titled “Regulation in the sale of bullets and ammunitions ordinance,” provides that all gun stores and similar establishments engaged in the sale of bullets and ammunitions, should require from purchasers their complete names, firearm license cards or permits to carry firearm outside of residence.

It also provides that if the purchaser is a member of a duly recognized security agency, a letter of authority from the general manager of the agency, aside from his ID, should be required.

A member of the Philippine National Police or Armed Forces of the Philippines or other government agencies should present his official ID and a letter of authority from his head office.

Any person who violates any section of the ordinance will suffer a penalty of P5,000 fine or imprisonment of one month, or both, at the discretion of the Court.

Baribar also authored a resolution inviting all TV and Cable TV stations in Bacolod City to cover and air live, by delayed telecast or replay, in part or in full, the regular sessions of the SP in the interest of transparency and public service.

Public service will be better served and accountability will have meaning if transparency is encouraged in public governance, the resolution added.*CGS
