Resettlement
certificates given

The distribution of certificates to 11 barangay families who have agreed to transfer to the Minoyan resettlement site by December 2011 was led by Mayor Andrew Montelibano of Murcia and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Patrick Leonard Lacson yesterday, a press release from Murcia said.

The resettlement site that is a program of the provincial government under Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will give affected residents security instead of occupying an area they do not own.

Montelibano lauded Marañon for addressing the concerns of informal settlers, and Lacson echoed the need to ensure support to the families.

Also at the awarding rites were Barangay Captain James Bernalde, Maricon Lonzaga of the Government Assets Management-GSO, and Cristina Mayoga, GAM-GSO, the press release added.*

LaSallian leads
MQ online polls

MassKara Festival Queen candidate No. 1 Alexis Danica Drilon, a BS Biology senior student of the University of St. La Salle, is leading in the online poll of Lifestyles Bacolod for its Readers’ Choice Award, a press release from organizers said.

As of 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Drilon had 2,852 votes.

Drilon, 20, who prefers to be called Nikki, was also Frosh Icon 2008 of USLS.

Following her are Jellaine Dinorog (1,915 votes), Rexie Lyn Lim (1,839 votes), Anastasia Concepcion (1,590), Giah Sumalde (885 votes), Allysa Villarico (716 votes), Kathleen Matillano (362 votes), Abegail Valdez (316 votes), Alona Jabaybay (311 votes), and Rose Valerie Lapuz (240 votes).

The winner will be given the Lifestyles Bacolod Readers’ Choice award comprising of a trophy plus P5,000 cash.

To vote for their favorite MQ candidate, interested parties may log on to www.lifestylesbacolod.com. Voting will end on October 17 at noon.

Awarding will be on October 17 during the MQ grand coronation night at the University of Saint La Salle at 7 p.m., the press release added.*

UNO-R RELAUNCHES
WALK OF FAME

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City re-launched the Recoletos de Bacolod Walk of Fame yesterday, at the UNO-R Main Lobby, a press release from UNO-R said.

The project was conceptualized in 2007 by Fr. Demetrio Peñascoza, Connie Po, and Antonio Gargarita.

This is the UNO-R version of the Hollywood “Walk of Fame”, and its unique feature is that a part from the generated income will help finance the scholarship of a deserving student of UNO-R, the press release said.

A motorcade around the city was held in the morning. Bingo socials for the walk of fame were in the afternoon at the university auditorium, while the official launching and ceremonial laying of stones started at 6 p.m.

Homecoming set at USLS

College of Education alumni of the University of St. La Salle are being called to attend the Alumni Homecoming and celebrate the 45th year of the college at the Santuario De La Salle in Bacolod City 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5.

The homecoming is also in celebration of the World’s Teachers Day, and its theme is “Home… for a Heroic Vow,” a press release from organizers said.

Teresita Barcoma of Class ’86, Manuel Delumpa Jr. ’96, Michael Canada ’04 and Joice Tiu ’10 will give their Snapshots of Reminiscence during the program.
