Phl women’s basketball team
ready for 1st PSC-SBP tourney

The Philippine women’s basketball team is in town for the 1st PSC-SBP Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, a four-nation competition, that will serve as the Filipinas’ tune-up game for the November Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

Head coach Haydee Ong said the Discovery Perlas Pilipinas squad will face China, Thailand, and Qatar in the September 28 to October 1 tournament that will be played at the West Negros University Gym.

China and Thailand will play in the curtain-raiser at 3 p.m., while Philippines will battle against Qatar in the main game.

All is set for Pre-Masskara
Open Trio bowling contest

Everything is set for the opening of the two-day 1st Kabataang Barangay ’75 Pre-MassKara Open Trio Fellowship Bowling Tournament Saturday at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City that will start at 1 p.m.

Hosted by the Active Solid Strikers Fellowship Bowlers Inc., the bowling tournament is a six-game series event where the top three teams in the men’s and women division will vie for the top prize and the title in an up-the-ladder system to determine the champion.

Tournament director Dan Dadivas said five games will be played on the opening day and the last one on Sunday after the battle of the top 20 begins at 9 a.m.

Sta. Rosa, Alegria cagers
pace Mayor Andrew Cup

Cagers donning the Sta. Rosa, Iglau-an, Minoyan and Alegria colors paced their respective brackets in the 2011 Mayor Andrew L. Montelibano Cup at the Murcia Sports and Cultural Center.

Going into its third week, the 23-team field witnessed an unprecedented upset with defending champion Blumentritt yet to win an assignment following a Round 1 loss to Alegria, the current Bracket D leader, which booked triumphs against Blumentritt, 78-72, and Caliban, 80-65.

The boys of coach Matthew Tormo relied on double digit hit-makers Roderick Bandiola, 12, and Renante Tormo and Erwin Arimas with 10 points each, in their match against the hapless Caliban side.
