PAL assures MassKara
of flights amid spin off

A Philippine Airlines official yesterday explained that PAL’s spin-off or outsourcing of its non-core businesses set to take effect on October 1 is necessary to ensure PAL’s survival and enhance its efficiency and competitiveness.

Airlines around the world have already outsourced their non-core business units as a result of the global financial crisis, PAL is among the last to implement such measure, Glenn Vallecera, PAL assistant vice president for Visayas sales and services, said.

PAL is temporarily reducing the number of its flights during the spin off transition, including 50 percent of those flying to the Bacolod-Silay Airport, except during the peak dates of Bacolod’s MassKara Festival in October, he said.moremoremore

Bacolod district engineer,
mayor’s secretary relieved

Acting Bacolod District Engineer Josefino Melgar Jr. has reported to his new assignment at the Department of Public Works and Highways in Iloilo City yesterday, while Secretary to the Mayor Rodel Parcon was relieved from his post last week.

The relief of Melgar from the DPWH Bacolod District Office is part of the regular reshuffling being implemented by the agency, according to a source from the DPWH.

Meanwhile, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued Memorandum No. 139 dated September 22, 2011 informing Parcon that he has been relieved of his duties and responsibilities as STTM effective immediately.moremoremore

Accident eyed
in cop’s death

Police investigators are eyeing accidental firing as the cause of the untimely death of their colleague, whose bloodied body was found in the restroom of his house in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, Sunday.

Police Officer 1 Daryl Delgado, 27, of Brgy. RSB succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on his head at the La Carlota City District Hospital, city police chief, Senior Insp. Eduardo Corpus, said yesterday.

Corpus said investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Lemery Gipanago showed that Delgado was cleaning his firearm earlier on Sunday and took it inside the restroom. He also said the firearm must have fired and the bullet hit his head.moremoremore
