Neg. Occ. tops
drive vs. gambling

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Bacolod City Police Office and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office topped the anti-illegal gambling drive among key police units in Western Visayas.

Records of the Police Regional Office 6 showed that the BCPO, under the leadership of Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, ranked number one in terms of number of operations conducted and arrested violators, with 707 suspects arrested in 466 operations conducted last year.

NOPPO trailed behind BCPO with 300 suspects arrested in 191 operations, Regional Special Operations Group – 216, Iloilo City Police Office – 108, Iloilo Police Provincial Office – 52, Capiz PPO – 51, Aklan PPO – 11, Guimaras PPO – 7 and Antique PPO – 3.

Police also seized P407,361 in alleged cash bets.

Despite their accomplishments, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, in a statement he issued, ordered police commanders to further intensify their anti-illegal gambling operations.

Querol reminded them again of the one-strike policy on illegal gambling, that had led to the relief of seven police officials in Region 6 last year.

At the same time, he enjoined the public to support the campaign for a gambling-free Western Visayas.*GPB
