Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has gone on a week-long leave that started yesterday.

Under Executive Order No 12-002, Marañon designated Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. acting governor until January 20.

To ensure continuous and effective delivery of basic and social services, it is necessary to designate Alvarez to assume his duties and responsibilities, Marañon said in his executive order.

Alvarez said Marañon told him he was going to Manila but he did not say what he was going to do there. He just said he was getting some rest, Alvarez said.*CPG
